Spring Break 2010: Day 2

The second day of our spring break excursion began with the ritual known as Making Breakfast. Our hostel advertised "Free Pancakes" and upon following the signage, we discovered that Free Pancakes consisted of fighting for some burner space, pans, spatulas, the spray cans of pam, and the batter bucket. The burners were way crowded, and we only had 40 minutes before we had to check out. Thankfully we spotted some burners next to a nice looking red-head and I took over the cooking process. 2 or 3 pancakes later, I finally realized that my pan had a curved bottom and made cooking everything so much more difficult. But it worked out eventually, and the three of us had a giant breakfast of pancakes, instant oatmeal, toast and jam.

After checking out we made our way to Union Square for shopping and strolling through the really expensive places, but we soon realized that most of them didn't open until 12noon anyway. So we made a couple pit stops to fill some time, H&M for fun, Sephora for makeup touch-ups, DSW to look at shoes--then to Neiman Marcus, where I dipped my finger in a tub of expensive looking foundation only to discover that less was definitely more with that brand. So I proceeded to look at myself in every mirror I passed to be as inconspicuous as possible in rubbing in the foundation...thankfully I picked the correct shade.

Here's a shoe display from Neiman Marcus...the shoes have their own little calling cards on them...

Awesome Chuck decided to meet up with us at Golden Gate Park, so the three weary travelers found themselves on a Muni bus and jumped off at 10th Ave. Almost immediately, we came upon a bunch of people swing dancing on a bridge--very very cool :)

A little while later Sonia and I took a detour through the Japanese Tea Garden...$7 admission, but totally worth it we thought. The weather was cool and the air was sweet with floral scents. The garden was already in bloom, which was really nice, and made for lots of great pictures:

After the garden, Sonia and I found Chuck, while Cherilyn napped in the park to sleep away the pain of a toothache. We went to lunch while she was doing that, and then we all met up again and Chuck took us to Twin Peaks, the highest points in the city, with panoramic views of the cityscape and the ocean.

Then he brought us to Mitchell's, a famous ice cream place in the Mission District. Lots of flavors ranging from traditional to Filipino to experimental (Orange-Chocolate Infusion anyone?)

The evening ended well with us wandering the Mission district area for a little while, peaking into fun cheaper stores...there was an excursion into the bathroom of a really sketchy McDonalds, and never did I feel more stared at...back to Union Square, my aunt and uncle picked us up and brought us to Pleasanton, and so ends our San Francisco adventures, at least for the next couple of days...good thing too, our wallets were definitely feeling the impact of it all. ;)
