a california christmas eve

So today is Christmas Eve here in California-land...well it's Christmas eve in every land right now except maybe the places where time zone differences means it's Christmas already. I'll be leaving for the Philippines the day after tomorrow, although I'm not quite believing it yet. Besides all the gift-buying for pasalubong and the fact that I haven't really unpacked from flying back here, I could just be lazy as opposed to going halfway around the world.

Anyway, here in California-land I've been celebrating the holiday season by going through my typical daily routine: sleeping, eating, watching tv, and being semi-productive by wrapping a few presents. My tv show of choice as of late has been the last two seasons of Gilmore Girls, seasons 6 and 7. In a little less than a week I watched all of the episodes, and let me just say that Gilmore Girls is always satisfying, but it always is accompanied by a nostalgia. There's always something to relate to, and no matter how many times I've seen an episode (and owning all of them on dvd, I've seen many of them several times), it never gets old and Rory and Lorelai never fail to offer thinking points about life.

I haven't been able to get myself to pick up a pen and write in my little book. It's been about a month, and nothing. This last time I was on a plane I found myself without a pen, and I probably spent about 10 minutes wondering if it would be appropriate to ask a flight attendant for a pen and then I promptly fell asleep. The lady in the aisle seat was doing puzzles the entire time, sudoku, crosswords, word searches, I was so jealous of her and her pen savvy-ness. And then, right as we were making our descent, the flight attendant goes by and she gives him back the pen--at least next time I'll know.

So instead of writing, I've been thinking, and to get away from thinking I watch tv and shop, or like today I bake. Holiday banana walnut bread today :) The bananas weren't as ripe as I would have liked, but I think the bread actually turned out like bread as opposed to the pudding-like thing that I usually end up making. And yesterday my dad made leche flan, so I think we've got our desserts in order (if nothing else). Also on the menu is homemade arroz caldo and spaghetti, holiday ham and whatever else my familia feels like whipping up.

Well anyway, more to come real soon, Merry Christmas Eve to everyone!
