Barrage of thoughts
It's already been a few weeks of being back in Providence, and so far here's the short list of what's been keeping me occupied:
Room-related:
- how to organize my clothes since I don't have real closet/drawers
- how to arrange the sofa, 2 arm chairs, bookshelf, and small fridge, and 2 end tables, in addition to my bed so that my room is comfy but still with a respectable amount of floor space
- when to leave the windows open for good air flow (basically they're always open)
- how to CHANGE CLOTHES when one of my windows facing the street doesn't have blinds to cover them (thanks sonia for the poster, I'll be sure to put it up soon...okay so the poster was a total fail and now both of my windows facing the street are just always open, I just have to be slick about changing!)
(the 2 windows in my room and the fallen Patti Smith poster)
Bike-related:
- where to lock my bike when I go to work
- how to lock my bike without knocking it into someone else's bike
- finding the best route to work that goes through as many 4-way stop intersections as possible (to avoid cars that rush through intersections without taking into account bikers)
- where to put my bike when it rains!
Research-related:
- when to schedule zipcars so that i have enough time to drive to interviews, taking into account time for getting lost
- driving a tiny smartcar over 65mph without it swaying in the wind
- keeping calm when giant dogs named Jack, Josh, and Tyler start jumping on me and poking their heads in my private areas
- saying "um" less and speaking with a lower-pitched voice so i don't sound like a stuttering kid on the voice recorder
- MAKING COPIES correctly
Workplace-related:
- fixing the printer/copier when it gets temperamental
- getting to work before my favorite spot at the table gets taken
- trying not to sound like a 300lb man because the floorboards in the Educ Dept are creaky
- avoiding falling down the steep stairs and other stair-related injuries (*edit* today I rammed into the door lock sticking out and have a great awkward-looking swollen bit of the back of my arm)
- resolving issues with workplace flirting? oops i think i messed up with that one already *guilty look*
School-related:
- figuring out what classes to take in the fall
- A.B. or Sc.B. Human Bio? Does it really matter?
- THESIS, has totally been on the back burner since school ended, NOT GOOD
Extra-curricular-related:
- taking care that FA gets off to a good start!
- PAC retreat...I really want to make it memorable, useful, and hopefully fun too :)
- WiSE is planning a high-school science competition, and they want to have it in NOVEMBER, ask if the other things in November aren't going to eat at me already
Health-related:
- having enough vegetables to eat well-balanced meals
- having enough meat to eat well-balanced meals
- drinking water...does vitamin water count?
- putting on sunscreen and wearing my hat for sun protection
- getting enough sleep :)
"Home"-related (aka summer home):
- taking care to announce showers so that other housemates can use bathroom before
- staying out of verbal exchanges and bickering between the housemates
- spotting "The Mouse" and other unwanted household tenants
- secretly filming "family dinner" conversations in which my housemates say the most ridiculous things
LIFE-related:
- what do I need to get done this year?
- and what to do after? (questions I know a lot of people are asking nowadays)
So yeah, basically a flourish-y accumulation of random thoughts...all in all, a nice summer :)
