Wake Me Up When September Ends?
Although I wasn't literally asleep through the whole month of September, it is kind of a marvel to me that it's been just about a month since we've come back to school.
Uh Elaine, why does the beginning of your blog posts always sound the same after a long hiatus?...yeah okay, so what? Anyway...a lot's happened over the past couple of weeks. Going to a different country (Cananada),
my mom and Jen visiting, a trip to Boston, learning to cook lumpia, learning to cook a lot of random things, the PAC retreat,
FINALLY submitting my capstone project proposal, and jumping on the All-Access gym pass bandwagon. I'm super excited for my ice skating classes, on Wednesday I actually started to skate backwards and do simple crossovers! And pilates is just awesome because I can feel my dancing body getting stronger...if next semester isn't too busy, I'm definitely going to try to do the pass again with ice skating and ballet :)
Despite the "doing something good for your body by going to the gym" philosophy it seems that we've all adapted, at times I feel like the food I'm making at home is counteracting the good things I've gained from exercise. As my education professor once said, if she ever had a blog it would be called "Yoga and Chicharon" emphasizing her bicultrality and inability to give up either one even though they really shouldn't go together.
For example...
Last Night's Pork Ribs with Homemade Honey Mustard Glaze
Yes, I realize the picture looks like someone already ate them...I was just experimenting, but was totally proud when Kristine said that she really liked it :) To be repeated on a larger scale (this time the meat portion I had was only about 4 pieces) on a special occasion?
But on the other hand...
This morning's Raspberry "Sorbet" with Applesause
1c of frozen raspberries in a blender with 3 or 4 spoonfuls of Applesause and a 1/2c of milk, makes a nice easy smoothie for breakfast. Usually raspberries have a bit of a tartness with counteracts the applesause really nicely.
Thank goodness that the weather's stayed nice, I was definitely not ready for the cooler temperatures last week. Hooray for one last push at the summertime :) and then after this weekend (and maybe one more ride down the bike path) I'll be ready to welcome in autumn with open arms.
