Grecian Influences

Image
A little late, but here's some pics from Halloween weekend! An assortment of cosmetics, our kitchen table was covered in eyeshadows, foundation, brushes, oh yeah and a knife. My attempt at a Greek goddess--I took a decorative sheer gold curtain, and my fabulous roomie Kristine wrapped it for me. Holding the curtain on its side like a towel, we wrapped it by having me stand in front of it, crossing over the two corners, and tying it behind my neck like it was a halter top. To give it shape, she gave me a stretchy black belt with gold fasteners. The cuff, earrings, and gold headband Robin lent me. My makeup is normal face makeup + more bronzer, gold tinted lipstick and gold eyeshadow. The fun adventure was figuring out those fake eyelashes. Self-adhesives aren't so reliable (aka, the adhesive is so shoddy that it wouldn't even stick over eyeshadowed eyes), so I asked Star if she could assist me, and fortunately she had the adhesive in the tube. I accidentally went a little ...

New Favorite Song

I'm so in love with this, I can't deal: Lyrics to I Don’t Care by Melissa Polinar x Jesse Barrera we’ve been at this for a long time keeping me alive – a lifeline when I’m too high you keep me grounded when I’m stuck on the ground, you take my mind somewhere far from here we can’t quit It doesn’t matter I promise everything’s gonna get better they’re not part of this Chorus: I don’t care what they’re talking about we’ve got a flame i’m not afraid of what they say I don’t care what they say because… I’m absolutely sure i won’t need anything more I left loneliness outside of your door One step closer to the boundary between what’s certain and the maybe’s we need to cross that line where no one’s got nothing on us they don’t understand – where we’ve been we can’t quit It doesn’t matter I promise everything’s gonna get better they’re not part of this bridge: I’m not afraid, i’m not afraid of what they say I know that we’ll be ok Read more: http://www.channelapa.com/2010/08/i-dont-c...

More Places to Go...

Yikes...old sad romantic movies

Image
It's been a long time since I've needed a movie to fall asleep to, but today I didn't do nearly as much running around as I should have, I literally didn't make it any further west than Thayer St. and any further north than the Omac (which I guess is still pretty far). But yeah, I don't know why I picked Roman Holiday, the second the music started playing I remembered how it ends. And I have a feeling if I don't end up falling asleep I may end up feeling terribly sad... Ah...Audrey is quite beautiful though... Why didn't I decide to watch Sabrina instead??? At least that one ends more happily...

Wake Me Up When September Ends?

Image
Although I wasn't literally asleep through the whole month of September, it is kind of a marvel to me that it's been just about a month since we've come back to school. Uh Elaine, why does the beginning of your blog posts always sound the same after a long hiatus?...yeah okay, so what? Anyway...a lot's happened over the past couple of weeks. Going to a different country (Cananada), my mom and Jen visiting, a trip to Boston, learning to cook lumpia, learning to cook a lot of random things, the PAC retreat, FINALLY submitting my capstone project proposal, and jumping on the All-Access gym pass bandwagon. I'm super excited for my ice skating classes, on Wednesday I actually started to skate backwards and do simple crossovers! And pilates is just awesome because I can feel my dancing body getting stronger...if next semester isn't too busy, I'm definitely going to try to do the pass again with ice skating and ballet :) Despite the "doing something good for ...

New York Adventure

So since I haven’t had a meaty blog post in a while, I decided I’m going to blog about my one-day adventure in the big city that is New York. Be prepared, I’m typing throughout the day, so even I don’t know what to expect! 5:15am My alarm went off much too early, but I realized with a jolt that I had to get dressed, make some food, and make sure everything I needed was packed. I was planning to meet a trolley at my good old Preston & Power RIPTA stop, but upon looking outside I suddenly became very paranoid that not only RIPTA but the whole world had crawled into a cave to get shelter from the hurricane, and that there would be no way for me to know. So resourceful as I can be at times, I called the RIPTA customer service line, which I obtained by texting Google at 46645. If you haven’t tried it yet, it’s really great for those of us who still don’t have internet on their phones. Text a name of a restaurant, store, hotel, or even just something like “movie theatre” and the zip cod...

Long Hiatus

Image
I know I haven't written much lately, but I guess that's a tribute that fact that I feel like my summer and school year melded together long before I even realized it. It might sound a little dramatic, but at the very least I feel like I'll be able to take the great parts of this summer and keep them through the school year. Such as... Pretty Places Pretty People Pretty Food :) Raspberry soy smoothie -- my attempt to cool off on this hot September day! So I'm off to NYC/Toronto tomorrow! I'm taking the 6:30am bus, hopefully to arrive at a reasonable hour like 11am, and I guess I'll just be wandering around the city until my cousin comes to get me around 9pm! Definitely more to come, Happy Labor Day weekend!

Hodgepodge

What my summer life consists of: 1. Baking Yellow Cupcake with Cinnamon Cream Cheese Frosting 3 Layer Yellow Cake with Brownie Filling and Chocolate Frosting - Other favorites include: "Unrolled Cinnamon rolls", Bread Pudding w/ Seven Stars Bakery Sweet Bread 2. Nail Polish Nina Ultra Pro 709066 "Peacock Blue" Lancome Le Vernis "Untamed Plum" - Wish List: A Good Topcoat. More "grown up" looking nail polishes. Cremes as opposed to shimmers. Colors besides purple or blue. 3. Television - I've rewatched Private Practice and Grey's Anatomy. In addition, I've zoomed through Season 1 of Parenthood...and I just now discovered my favorite (though the only) anime I've seen, Ruroni Kenshin, has all 3 seasons uploaded! Summer shows that I've been picking up include Pretty Little Liars, Huge, The View, Wipeout, and Minute to Win It. I started watching Top Chef but it doesn't get uploaded anymore :( anyone...

A Rhode Island Fourth of July Weekend

Image
Saturday - Indie Art Festival by the Sea at Fort Adams (Newport, RI) In an act of spontaneity (my favorite kind of act), I found myself making the trek out to Newport for the second Saturday in a row, this time with Robin , Matt, & the gang. Taking the 60 Ripta on a beautiful Saturday afternoon turned into a bit of a bumpy ride with half the bus being filled with Summer@Brown high school students (and that was only the ride there, the ride back was a whole other tale). Making our way to the Gateway Visitors' Center, we somehow came to the conclusion that walking the 3.2 mi to Fort Adams would be the most cost-effective method of getting to the festival. View Larger Map We felt a little bit silly, and quite a bit exhausted, when we reached Fort Adams and could see that the path that we had taken resembled that of a giant U--though we did feel accomplished for walking the whole way. We came across some random things, mostly houses and gated properties, but this picture reminded ...

Another Morning Off

Image
I took another break today to do my laundry... and experiment with the waffle maker at our house :) 1 cup Pancake Mix 3/4 cup Water (follow directions based on your pancake mix) 2 handfulls Chocolate Chips 6 Strawberries (sliced) Whipped Cream for garnish Lightly mix pancake batter. Do not over mix! Follow directions of your waffle maker. Don't forget to spray with Pam or Canola Oil! Sprinkle chocolate chips and sliced strawberries as desired. Add whipped cream. Eat and enjoy!

Taking the Morning Off...

Image
I've rented a ZipCar 6 of the last 6 weekdays... I love driving, no lie, but I'm glad today someone else is taking me on a spin...A house I went to in Bristol was absolutely gorgeous, right on the water, huge windows, lots of space...I haven't been able to take pictures of all the pretty places and odd things I've seen because I was the one at the wheel! And so I took the morning off to celebrate, kind of. 1 coat of Avon's Chic Pink C (I wanted to see if laying the pink with the purple would do anything, but it didn't really do much) 3 coats of NYC's 133A Quick-dry A bit off season, but it's bright and shiny, just how I like my nails :) Painting nails + Glee episode reruns = good morning

Barrage of thoughts

Image
It's already been a few weeks of being back in Providence, and so far here's the short list of what's been keeping me occupied: Room-related: - how to organize my clothes since I don't have real closet/drawers - how to arrange the sofa, 2 arm chairs, bookshelf, and small fridge, and 2 end tables, in addition to my bed so that my room is comfy but still with a respectable amount of floor space - when to leave the windows open for good air flow (basically they're always open) - how to CHANGE CLOTHES when one of my windows facing the street doesn't have blinds to cover them (thanks sonia for the poster, I'll be sure to put it up soon...okay so the poster was a total fail and now both of my windows facing the street are just always open, I just have to be slick about changing!) (the 2 windows in my room and the fallen Patti Smith poster) Bike-related: - where to lock my bike when I go to work - how to lock my bike without knocking it into someone else's bike...

TV Finales of the Seasonal Kind

Image
This semester I discovered the wonders of Hulu, IPTV, and YouTube, and thus my television intake increased significantly. Dubbed "IPTV Buddy" by my wonderful suitemate, I became re-addicted to a variety of shows, some of which I'm not so sure how I started watching in the first place...but yeah, in an attempt for some extra closure with these shows, here are my musings on the good, bad, and sometimes ugly season finale episodes. WARNING! this post is filled with spoilers so skip over it if you haven't watched the season finales and were planning to do so ;) The Amazing Race - So this didn't really have a 'season' finale per se, but the final episode was filled with drama and excitement as always (or at least that's how they edited it to looks like a close race the whole way through). The brothers from RI, Dan and Jordan, snuck in from behind to win the $1 million, beating out The Cowboys and The Models (a team which included the infamous the Miss Teen...

A Quick Tribute to the Lakers :)

BACK-TO-BACK CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!! and also because Robin doesn't have facebook anymore and I can't just go post this on her wall... Ron Artest may be slightly nuts, a certified bad boy, and makes a lot of questionable choices (both in the game of basketball and in life)...but I have to say that he's kind of great because pretty much, he is who he is and he's cool with it. And he's so happy ! It's quite endearing =) Congrats to Ron on his first NBA championship!

Vegas with the Parentals

Image
Last weekend my parents and I went on our first vacation together in quite a long time. Our destination? Las Vegas (as usual) but we took advantage of free rooms at the Aria Resort and Casino at the new CityCenter and took advantage of our new lodgings to explore more of the newer attractions of the Las Vegas strip. My parents were simply amused that I was finally old enough to play slots with them, and I had a couple of my own things on my to-do list :) 1. Reunion with Fat Tuesday's Bellini: Ever since Spring Break and being un able to get a refill of the fabulous half-yard frozen Bellini (basically Peach Schnapps and Champagne), this was probably the one "food" item that I was looking most forward to having :) That's a pic of me on my second refill. These 2 semi-cute Asian boys in front of me in line convinced me to try something different so I ended up with a mix of 190 Octane and Hurricane...and it was REALLY strong...don't listen to cute strangers when it com...
